How To Choose A Tennis Stringing Machine For Home Use

May 20th, 2012

If you enjoy playing tennis and to date you’ve been paying to have your racquets re-strung at the pro shop, it may have crossed your mind that there is a smarter way to do this. Getting your racquet strung this way costs a lot of money and is time consuming. It may be time you should think about obtaining a tennis stringing machine to use within your own house.

As an initial stringing machine purchase loads of tennis players select the least expensive stringing machine thinking this is the beginner’s place to start. It is worth understanding that when you first learn to string your own tennis racquet it takes some time to learn the correct technique whether you commence on a cheaper model or a more expensive stringing machine. However, there are certain advantages in the middle to upper range of stringing machines. It is wise to know about these before you settle on your first purchase.

A drop weight tensioning system is quite often the sort of stringing machine people choose to begin with at home. Understandably, there is a range of different features within the drop weight range of models. There are also advantages and disadvantages when compared to tennis stringing machines of other kinds of tensioning systems that it is smart to be aware of before you make the decision on a model to acquire a drop weight machine.

If you are contemplating purchasing a drop weight tensioning tennis stringing machine as your very first model it is most certainly a very solid investment. This type of machine has a strong reputation for being accurate, dependable and transportable. If you want to transport your stringing machine away with you in your car, portability is an important consideration. Of course, it is also necessary to realise that this sort of model will not produce the quickest results. If you have more than one tennis racquet to re-string in a day or night then you will want to quicken the stringing time by as much as possible. Some people re-string racquets for more than one member of the family so you need to take this into consideration when buying a stringing machine. This is particularly the case if you have a couple of keen tennis playing children with a heavy spin game. They will break more tennis strings than you want to know about.

When it comes to choosing the right tennis stringing machine for you or one of your family you should quite possibly consider the correctness in tensioning, the length of time it takes to string each racquet, the ease of access to the racquet while stringing it and where your stringing machine is going to be put in your house. All these considerations will impact on the model that is perfect for you. The Gamma stringing machine models offer a full range of tennis stringing machines from the least expensive and transportable right up to the professional stand-alone stringing machines.

There are, of course, plenty of factors to give consideration to when buying a stringing machine for home use, these include the clamps used on your stringing machine: fixed or floating; single or dual action; technique of gripping the string; type of tensioning gripper; and the list goes on. If you are only just starting to contemplate getting a stringing machine, be sure to do a little research before you commit your hard-earned money. Once you make your purchase you will probably use your investment for many years to come.

2012 Colorado Rockies Starting Pitcher & Bullpen Predictions

May 19th, 2012

The Colorado Rockies were predicted to win the National League West and possibly return to the World Series last season, but instead they became one of the largest disappointments of 2011. The Rockies finished fourth in the division with a record of 73-89, principally due to lack of quality starting pitching. The expectations have changed this year, and the Rockies aren’t as good as they were in 2010, but they are still good enough to be a surprise squad in 2012 and get back to the apex of the division. Here is the projected starting pitchers and bullpen situation. If you want to know what I think of their hitters have a look at our Colorado Rockies preview article.

Projected Starters

Jhoulys Chacin (RHP) – The 24-year-old child is being trusted to be the anchor of rotation. He has what’s required to be a 15-game winner and he has come near to this the past two years, going 9-11 with a 3.28 ERA in 2010 and 11-14 with a 3.62 ERA last year. This is going to be the season where he takes the very next step and becomes a 15-game winner.

Jeremy Guthrie (RHP) – Colorado added the inconsistent Guthrie to the staff over the winter. In five years with the Orioles, Guthrie has flip-flopped good and bad years. He went 11-14 with a solid 3.82 ERA in 2010, but followed that up with a terrible year, going 9-17 with 4.33 ERA last year. While he must adapt to pitching in Coors Field, he should benefit from not being forced to make the great majority of his starts against the loaded lineups in the American League East.

Guillermo Moscoso (RHP) – Another new player that the Rockies hope will make an impact is Guillermo Moscoso. He went just 8-10 in 21 starts with the Oakland A’s last season, but his 3.83 ERA and 1.09 WHIP are good indicators that he could surprise in 2012.

Tyler Chatwood (RHP) – The 22-year-old still has a ways to go, but he’s got the potential to turn into a trustworthy starter in days to come. He went just 6-11 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 25 starts with the Los Angeles Angels last year. The hope in Colorado is that the kid can improve and be the player they know he could be.

Juan Nicasio (RHP) – After a frightening neck injury he suffered close to the end of last year, he has made a remarkable recovery and is anticipated to be ready for the start of the year. He will be competing with Drew Pomeranz, Alex White, Jamie Moyer and Josh Outman for the final spot in the revolution.

Projected Closer

Rafael Betancourt (RHP) – The Rockies are taking an opportunity on the 36-year-old reliever to replace Huston Street in the ninth. He has been essentially used a set up man during the past, but he has saved 27 games in his career. He does not walk lots of batters and has the powerful strikeout rate that you look out for in a closer, so that the risk with the veteran should be low.
